There was, according to Robert Stodart Wyld, a fourth son who would have been born around 1851 - 54, probably in Australia if before 1851, either Australia or England if 1853 or 54. There are a few plausible candidates drawn from the New South Wales Registry: Alfred J Brown, born 1851; Charles J G Brown and George Brown, born 1853.
Claud Brown, the third son, was born in August 1850. This makes August 1851 about the most likely earliest date for the birth of the fourth son. I believe Mary Brown to have been born around 1852, so this restricts the span of likely birth dates to around late 1851 / early 1852, if he was older than Mary. I think Mary was born in 1852 as there is an entry in the NSW registers: V185233 69/1852 BROWN MARY which could be her. This means that the fourth son could have been born between Claud and Mary, almost certainly in Australia. The fifth and final son, James Wyld Brown, was born in May 1855. If the fourth son was born after Mary, the likeliest latest date for the birth of the fourth son would be around May 1854, and the likeliest earliest date 1853. Of course I am assuming he was not a twin.
He must have been a fourth son, because I know that Claud Brown was the third son, preceded by John and Thomas, and James was the youngest.
Likely names of the fourth son include:
He does not appear in the 1861 census - perhaps he was at boarding school when the census form was filled in? He does not appear in the 1871 census - perhaps he had left home by then?
The New South Wales registers show the following possibilities which I have not investigated:
